Becoming Health Conscious
by Dr. Audrey Craft Davis

I awakened from my alpha brain-wave frequency -- that very powerful state
of consciousness -- with these thoughts swirling through my mind. The food
we eat, the thoughts we think, the words we speak and the dreams -- especially
because we are living the experience in the dream -- all these combine with
the oxygen we breathe and form chemicals in the blood, which in turn enter
our cells to regenerate them. This is how our bodies renew themselves. The
body was never meant to die. If we could make certain that every word, thought
and dream could be totally positive, we would never die nor grow old.
To be health conscious means to be aware of the things that keep us healthy.
One of the most important is to be aware of our thoughts. We build our world
by the way we think. Words and thoughts are things. They materialize. Nothing
can happen until someone thinks about it. Our words and thoughts become
things and events.
God told Adam to name all the animals and each one would be as he named
it. Animals represent our ideas or thoughts. Our actions are just reflections
of these. If you think your world stinks, it does. If you think it is lined
with rainbows, it is. You named it.
We must also become food conscious. Read the labels. More importantly,
consciously act as though your food is life, for it is. This is why many
ancient tribes made gods of the animals they ate. They did a ritual asking
the animal to forgive them for killing it for food. These ancient people
would never kill an animal for sport.
While learning Transcendental Meditation and its principals, we noticed
that the members of this great organization, would place one hand on either
side of their plate as they offered thanks at the table. This was to make
us conscious of the food and what it meant to us. We should treat our food
with reverence and be mindful of our attitude when we eat. Have you noticed
that if you eat when you are in a bad mood, you are likely to have an upset
stomach.
Food that is eaten with thankfulness and joy will not interfere with
your digestion. There is an interplay between humans and everything we touch.
A car and things like appliances that are appreciated will give good
service. It is almost as though mechanical things such as automobiles actually
identify with us.
I had a friend who swore their car attacked her husband. He stepped out
of the car, the door flew back, knocking him to the pavement. Then it almost
ran over him as he struggled to get to his feet. I said, "No wonder,
it attacked him. You have both hated and cursed that car and swore it was
a dud from the day you purchased it."
Since prosperity has much to do with health, you should bless your money.
If you do, it will multiply. If you constantly swear that it is never enough,
it will remain so.
I teach my students to take their wallet, their money, and their bank
book in their hands and bless them. "I bless this money. I send it
forth with joy and it returns to me multiplied."
I teach them to do the same with their bills. Take them in your hands
and say, "I bless these bills and the service they represent. I send
this payment forth with joy and thankfulness." I also advise them to
tithe. It blesses my heart when they call and tell me of the miracles they
reap from these practices.
I will relate just one of these. One man (I'll call him, Sam) told me
of how a man had owed him a large sum of money. He had tried in vain to
collect it for two years. A week after he began this procedure, he was walking
down the street when he heard someone calling his name. The man was out
of breath from trying to catch up with him. Sam was astounded when the man
said, "Wait up. I want to pay you the money I owe you."
A common remark is, "It is a miracle. My money goes so much farther,
it is hard to believe. Everything I buy is on sale and I have gotten raises
in salary. Money just stretches out, it seems."
We should be conscious of our eyesight, our hearing, our speech, being
able to walk and do the things that shape our happiness. We often take these
blessings for granted until such time as we may lose one or more of these
abilities. It is then that we become aware of what blessings these endowments
are.
We need to be aware of the caring, love, and appreciation from others.
Be conscious of the beauty of nature, the birds, trees, mountains, ocean
and the wonder of a magnificent sunset or a glorious sunrise. All these
things should be part of health consciousness.
