Angela Edward-Mangione is dedicated
to helping humanity achieve better overall health – mental,
physical, and spiritual - and allows this commitment to underlie
her service to the community as our new Associate Editor. Angela’s
insights, talents and dedication are sure to help propel New Times
Naturally! forward in its goal of broadening the communities awareness
and involvement in natural alternatives, holistic living and personal
growth. Please welcome Angela as a kindred soul.
In high school, Angela fell in love with literature and decided
to study it more intensely in college. During her first two years
of undergraduate studies, she concentrated on the humanities and
also studied creative writing with Gabriel Horn (White Deer of Autumn):
a teacher, writer and activist at St. Petersburg College.
After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in American and British
Literature from the University of South Florida, Angela continued
her education with the pursuit of a Graduate Certificate in Comparative
Literary Studies. This program allowed her the opportunity to delve
deeper into philosophy—something she loves as much as literature
and writing. In the fall of 2003, Angela began the Master’s
Program in Liberal Arts at USF, and concentrated in the fields of
literature, philosophy, and art history and concepts of self and
identity. A few of her favorite philosophers to date are Lao Tzu,
Chuang Tzu, Plato, Aristotle, Baruch Spinoza, Friedrich Nietzsche,
Immanuel Kant, and Martin Heidegger.
During the fall of 2005, Angela supplemented her graduate and writing
studies by taking a poetry class with Marc Olmsted: senior student
of Lama Tharchin Rinpoche, and author of the recently published
work, What use Am I A Hungry Ghost? –Poems from 3- Year Retreat.
Angela’s class with Marc, as well as the meditation she learned
to practice from Steve Shealy, moved her deeper into her religious
and spiritual studies, and got her pen moving on the paper more
often. This past November, Angela wrote an article on meditation
for New Times Naturally! as well as a health article for The Best
of New Tampa.
Angela’s primary interest is in how philosophy, spiritual
practices, and community dialogue can dramatically improve the health
and well being of humanity on an individual and collective level:
a commitment deeply rooted in her own meditation and yoga rituals
which dramatically and positively transformed her life and writing.
She feels a strong calling to serve society, and she welcomes questions
and dialogue from all. She can be reached by
