What, Me Worry?

AnneMarie Dyer

I just returned from a 10-day trip out west and feel like a new person. Actually I felt like a little kid on this trip everything was so exciting and I was in awe of the views. The Grand Canyon is a must for everyone to see. I spent an extra day there as I could not get enough of it. Nature and its magnificence took over and filled me up.

During the entire trip, I amazed myself by not even thinking about my bills, my dog, family or any other obligations. Detachment or an inner peace was finally starting to sink into my thought process. Living in the Now, I did not have time to worry. A mind at peace allows our positive side a foot in the door!

As I journalized each day, I could see a pattern of my perspective changing, my inner-world subconscious mind shifting. Our subconscious mind is our spiritual consciousness and is in every cell of our being. Individual cells deteriorate while our thoughts produce physical manifestations that we call emotions. These molecules are made up and directed from our mental world. Emotions are simply physical manifestations of our thoughts. When we eliminate distress signals, our mind's immune system can eliminate chemical imbalances and toxins. Anger, stress, worry, tension or fear can all make us sick. We create our emotions with thoughts. An old Indian proverb states that, "If you want to know what your thoughts were like yesterday, look at your body today."

We all need to improve our "I" sight. And this is exactly what happened to me. I climbed up mountains and volcanoes and hiked whenever I could. No physical or mental disabilities plagued me, even though I have bulging discs and walk with a cane. My self-image began to improve as there were no outside influences. I did not have time to waste energy on worry and found I was suspending old thoughts and became first and foremost a spiritual being.

Life is a journey and I want to make it as exciting an adventure as possible, treating all life with reverence and awe. Learning entails a new set of cognitive skills, shifting inner awareness to a new level.

When adversity knocks on your door, are you a carrot, egg or coffee bean? How do you respond? Fill three pots with water, place each on a hot fire and let them boil. Then place carrots in the first, eggs in the second and ground coffee beans in the third and let them boil for about 20 minutes. Then turn them off. Take the contents out of each pot and place in separate bowls. What do you see? If you look closely and feel the carrots, they are soft. Then take the egg and break it, you'll notice it is hard-boiled. Next sip the cup of coffee and taste the rich aroma.

The moral is that each of these objects faced the same adversity boiled water but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but, after sitting in boiled water, its inside became hardened. The coffee beans were unique, however. They changed the water.

As I debated about going on this trip, I meditated on Guidance and noticed the word dance at the end of the word. The letter G reminded of God or the higher power, followed by "U" and "I". When two people dance and both try to lead, nothing feels right as there is no gentle flow to the music. When one realizes this and lets the other lead it's as if two become one in mind and body, moving gracefully through the universe.

My choice was to take this trip and putting myself first allowed me to dance with the universe. May you dance with God, trusting Spirit to lead and guide you through each season of your life.

I am a spiritual being having a human experience and as Einstein said, "In the mind (energy) nothing happens until something moves." Bad energy is something that only becomes a problem when we put it into our head. It is just a mistake or an illusion.

Get out there and dance and, if you do not dance, go row, row, row your boat as you gently go down stream with the currents.
