What is Prosperity?

by Charles Bleistein

You could look in the dictionary and find a simple one-liner. You could say it's simply the amount of money one collects. But I'd like to look a little deeper and emerge with a fresher picture of prosperity.

We can always look to nature and the universe to give us insight on just about anything. Prosperity is not an exception. Look at a large view of the galaxies. Some are expanding some are contracting and even collapsing in on themselves. Like giant spirals, they are breathing inward and outward depending on their age. The process of being a galaxy is dynamic. Some are smaller, while some are very large, and even have other galaxies rotating around them like planets around a sun. Mind boggling indeed!

The ones that are collapsing merely recollect into a small place, and then burst outward in a massive explosion and are once again expanding.

What does this have to do with prosperity?

All of them are very much alive. They are all moving. They breathe as a result of the interaction between their stars.

On a smaller scale down here on earth, think of a large mountain. It is lush and green. It can be millions of years old. It is flourishing and prosperous and, though seemingly still, is actually moving and living within itself. It is an active part of the community of nature. But without the rain and sun to nourish it, the birds to seed it, its streams to feed it, it would be a barren collection of dirt and rock. It too expands and contracts each season, with each rain, and is dependent like the galaxies on the laws of nature.

It is prosperous.

Now take for example the person who is very wealthy, and simple stashes money in the bank saving it for a "rainy day." Immediately we feel a sense of tightening in our stomachs. It doesn't feel right. This is not prosperity.

Take that same person and remove the idea that they are simply stashing money away. Immediately we think of them as someone who spends money freely. This is not prosperity either. Spending foolishly and disrespecting money also brings a tight feeling to the stomach.

What the galaxies and mountains have in common is the characteristic of flow. One process flows gracefully into the other, like the yin and yang. The mountain embraces the lake and the rainy day. The birds spread the seeds for trees. The galaxies embrace the stars as they expand and contract. All of them would stop if any part of the cycle were broken. The mountain embraces its lakes, streams, and rainy days.

Prosperity is flow.

How many people think, "hmmm if I just made a little bit more money I could buy that new car"? At the same time, they walk through life and take for granted the air that they breathe. They assume the next breath will follow.

What's the difference?

Our mind, our consciousness, perceives things that are simply within reach and others that are just wishes. It happens at any level of wealth. I know of a very wealthy man who complained angrily when he thought the price of his frozen yogurt was too high!

A part of our consciousness perceives flow and movement. The interesting thing is that the brain or rather our consciousness doesn't know or care if it's yogurt, air, or a new car. The reactions are the same. Things that don't flow bring tightness, desire, or even frustration. Things that do flow are appreciated, but most of the time are taken for granted.

Stagnation and lack of flow breeds more stagnation and lack of flow. Sit in front of a blank wall and it gets boring very quickly unless you're meditating! Lack of flow in any area of our lives will actually increase stagnation (decrease flow).

In Feng Shui, water is a symbol of prosperity. Flowing water is even more powerful.

Too much flow can be destructive. Motion and flow stimulate our bodies, our consciousness. The stimulation expands to other areas of our lives. When a blockage in the flow is met, the process slows down. Prosperity decreases.

Prosperity is flow in ALL aspects of life.

From our root to our crown chakra and between, the integration and flow between the chakras is true prosperity. Stagnation in any one area affects ALL of the others. The spiritual journey can sometimes separate us from our root. Likewise, our sense of power can cause us to neglect our spiritual connections.

Prosperity is flow between the chakras, within the self, and between individuals. It is the expansion and contraction, the flow and exchange of energy, of love.

Do you want a new car? Start walking. Experience a beautiful day on all levels. Feel the sand under your feet. Hum a song to yourself. Thank the universe that you're alive. Look at the stars and remember their prosperity. Remember where they've been.

Prosperity IS freely flowing consciousness.
