The Source of True Happiness
by Rev. Pat Cross

Happiness! What is it and where do you find it?
What I found true for me is that attitude is the seat of the soul and
happiness springs forth from the soul like a new blossom in the springtime
when we open ourselves up to unlimited possibilities.
Each of us is the artist or sculptor of our own life. Masterpieces in
process chipping away at the exterior self-block to get to the real and
lasting art work, a masterpiece of God's creativity... the spirit of our
being, the eternal gem of God's creation.
Attitude is where we live at any stage or development of our life. To
know and accept a loving God in ourselves and others is the greatest gift
we can share with each other. To acknowledge and accept we are in partnership
with our creator, the silent partner of our existence, is the key that opens
the door to the inner life where all the treasures and answers of life await
our discovery. How often do we yearn for more love when the greatest love
lives as us?
Life indeed is what we create it to be and an inner recognition, acceptance
and response to that eternal light within us that sets us free to know and
acknowledge the spirit of God as our true identity.
We all have meaning and purpose in life and are all rubbing shoulders
with ourselves as we communicate with each other. However, when we stay
focused on God's purpose for us and transcend, allowing ourselves to
be influenced by man's motives and opinions, we can walk the crooked path
with dignity and nobility begot of our creation in the image and likeness
of God.
This is a joyous season for most of us with Thanksgiving at our doorstep
and Christmas soon to follow. A special occasion for sharing with family
and friends. Sounds of joyous carols echoing happy memories in our heart
of many Christmases gone by. The fulfilment of this holiday season and the
anticipation of many more to come.
"Joy is the most infallible sign of the Presence of God" (Teilhard
de Chardin). At this benevolent time of year when one is inclined to get
caught up in the busyness, hustle and bustle of seasonal activities we can
easily lose sight of the deeper meaning of joy and happiness our spiritual
nature and essence, and that of others.
When we awaken to this latent spiritual power within ourselves, we recognize
that every seeming discordant thought and/or appearance is our Christ-self
in disguise, masked by false beliefs of human origin.
Let us lovingly resonate with ourselves and each other unconditionally,
and experience wholeness of being in all our relationships; allowing love,
peace and harmony to be our primary concern and attention.
Each of us, as the gift that we are, has an opportunity to contribute
to, represent and enhance this Divine Tree of life... to spread our branches
of joy, peace, love, compassion and goodwill as far as they'll reach.
Reach out and touch someone, share who you are. Feel the peace and joy
of allowing others to know who you are and how you feel. Be an attentive
and interested listener. Let this indwelling spirit blossom into its most
precious and natural beauty, radiance and wholeness.
We each touch each other in many different ways and consequently have
an effect on one another. Maybe this is an appropriate occasion for us to
reprogram, revise and update ourselves and bring those spiritual values
back to life to be shared with all.
Conditioned thinking and old habit patterns are not always easy to let
go of as we have been indoctrinated by them for many eons and they can be
embedded in our consciousness throughout our entire lifetime. Often experiences,
opinions, beliefs and habits of the past can keep us from progressing spiritually
in the now. However, when we look at the past as a trail we left behind,
we are more able to "get on with getting on" and to discover,
explore and practice more options that better serve us and others.
As so eloquently expressed by Helen Keller: "Be of good cheer. Do
not think of today's failures but the successes that may come tomorrow.
You have set yourself a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere.
And you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles."
Be a current edition. Make a statement. Proclaim your spiritual identity,
dignity and nobility. Let God's presence be felt in, as and through you,
and offer this gift of spirit to all others.
As the favorite and familiar song proclaims: "Let there be peace
on earth and let it begin with me."
Namasté.
