The Greatest Discovery
Betty Perry

The greatest discovery you will ever make is the potential of your
own mind.
Jose Silva
Jose Silva was a pioneer in the power and use of the mind. He spent more
than thirty years doing research into how the mind works and how to tap
into this powerful part of us.
In order to make use of the mind it is important to begin to understand
just what it is. The truth is we do not know. It is not an organ like the
brain that we can see and touch. We are not able to say the mind is in a
certain part of you and every other human on this planet. It is not a part
of the brain, although by using the mind we activate the brain.
The concept that makes the most sense to me is that the mind is an energy
in every cell of our body. The mind is what makes humans, human. It is using
the process known as mind that we, humans, are different from other mammals.
Physiologically we have the same organs (heart, lungs, liver, kidneys etc.)
as horses, cows and sheep. What makes us truly different is our mind.
We have the ability to use that power to alter our environment. We have
developed buildings, heating, air conditioning, vehicles and many other
things we take for granted. This was done by people using their minds. Other
mammals have to adapt to the environment. Humans have adapted the environment
to suit our needs.
To unleash the power of the mind there are a few simple facts that help
us understand how to cause this to happen. The first - and this may be the
great secret of the Universe - "The mind does not know the difference
between the real or imagined situation."
Another thing about the mind is that it has no sense of humor. The mind
accepts everything you say or think as truth. You may say things about yourself
and consider it a joke. Your mind does not. It accepts everything you say
as truth and sets about to bring it to you.
As you begin to understand the four-step process that goes on constantly
between you and your mind you will monitor your thoughts. Here are the steps:
Thoughts create feelings.
Feelings create beliefs.
Beliefs create actions.
Actions create our life.
Your mind is truly the computer programmer, your brain the computer and
your life is the printout. If you do not like the printout, change the program.
Know what you would like to have in place of what you have. It is usually
easier to know what we do not want than it is to decide what the replacement
will be. Until you decide what you would like to have, you will continue
to have what is already there. If you go along thinking that this is all
that you can have, that is all that you will get.
Your mind needs an image of your choices if they are to happen in your
life. The mind works with images. It needs to have a map of some type to
proceed. The language of the mind is visualization and imagery. When someone
says the word "truck" an image of some kind of truck comes to
mind. As you learn to create the images of the life you would prefer, your
mind sets out to bring that life to you.
The energy of the mind is magnetic. It draws to you what you think about.
Just as a magnet attracts pieces of metal, your mind draws to it whatever
you think about. That is why it is so important to begin to focus your mental
energies on the situations, feelings and objects you would choose for your
life.
Yes, I said feelings. You very definitely can be in control of your feelings,
to have a life filled with joy and contentment. You were probably never
told you could have control over your feelings. You certainly can and your
powerful mind can start the process.
The first step in tapping into the power of your mind is to still the
"chatter" that goes on constantly. It is probably the same chatter
that has gone on for many months, if not years. One way is to meditate.
In dynamic meditation you slow down the brain waves to alpha and tap into
that very powerful level of energy and focus it to bring about changes in
your life.
Once in that state of mental quiet you begin to develop the images of
the life you want, complete with the feelings that would come with that
life. In the book, You Can Have It All, Arnold Patent states, "Think
about how you want to feel and you will bring into your life the people
and things necessary to help you feel that way."
The concept is very simple. However it is not as easy as it sounds. We
have had many years of undisciplined thought. It takes close attention on
our part to change those old patterns. Believe me, it is definitely worth
the time and concentration to cause those changes to take place. All it
takes is a firm commitment on your part to want it in your life.
Remember, your thoughts create your feelings, your feelings create your
beliefs, your beliefs create your actions. You have that wonderful tool,
your mind. You can be the one in charge of your life - just be mindful of
your every thought.
