Exploring with Wonder

Kathy Houston

Recently I was placing the finishing touches to my latest and very cherished work, the designing and implementation of sessions based on the Medicine Wheel Circle of Life Teachings. It is a culmination of my past five years' experiences, lessons, and teachings. Throughout these years my mind would often drift to 1970, my pregnancy, the birth and growth of my only child, Shane. I felt so alive, useful and happy throughout that period of my life. It certainly was a time of great exploration and adventure for us individually and together. It was a time when I enjoyed the challenges and the changes. The memories spurred me to continue forward with my project with patience and perseverance. Deep within I knew, as with any labor of pure love and commitment, miracles will be born. The end result was my own rebirth and the timing could not have been more perfect! On April 5, 2000, in Massachusetts, my son and daughter-in-law gave birth to their daughter, Leah Skye, my first grandchild!

During the last trimester my moods 'were making owls'. I felt stories living and growing within me as well. So here we are.

Needless to say my new trail of power entailed clearings, cleansings, tests, struggles, etc. However that's another story. Meanwhile, in synchronization my son and his wife were going through their own life-changing emotional, physical and spiritual trials. It seemed as if, almost daily, nothing was flowing smoothly or easily for any of us. Although at the moment of materialization of each of 'our creations' into the physical realm, we were each in our way suddenly embraced with joy, laughter, peace, contentment, and love.

As the new parents were getting ready to present their daughter to the world, I too was preparing to bring my creation out into the world. Prior to 'sending out my announcements' Spirit guided me to do one more thing: review my current mission statement, mini-biographies, and the like. Immediately I found myself skimming over sections and adding 'to have fun', 'enjoy this earthwalk adventure', 'explore with childlike wonder'

I had often forgotten to enjoy the creative process, to recognize the adventure in the moment, explore the cycles. I would get caught up in the sadness and pain, and view what I was carrying as a burden instead of a gift to myself as well as to Mother Earth. All our creations from love are perfect reflections of Great Spirit to be treated with the childlike imaginings of exploration and adventure.

Life is an adventure in the jungle when we don't allow ourselves to get caught in the tangles and underbrush. Weed through with determination, blessing what we pull out and get rid of. Prune the plants and trees realizing that the old dead leaves will only sap energy should they remain. Explore and appreciate the beauty of the new growth.

Life is an adventure in a roller-coaster when we sit up front, open our eyes, raise our arms above our head, scream, and shout merrily. Listen and hear the gulls cheering and laughing along side of us. Explore with enthusiasm the changes that occur when we let go and let God.

Life is an adventure in weaving a tapestry when, like grandmother spider, we weave from our power center: sending out luminous cords of light to the four directions connecting us to the Universal cords. Explore with wonder the possibilities in developing our own designs.

Life is an adventure in a flower garden when we openly display our shapes, colors, textures, fragrances and allow the butterfly and the honey bee to sit awhile. Explore with excitement the process of seed, stalk, and flower. Embrace the never-ending cycle of death and rebirth.

Life is an adventure in dancing on the wind-drafts of pure perfection when we soar like the eagle. Learn to take our vision to our higher self and to let the vision of our higher self down into our daily mind to revitalize our life. Explore with humbleness the Sacred Dance of Life having an open mind and an open heart.

Life is an adventure in drumming when we realize that we are the drummers and we are the drum. We are the heartbeat of humanity. Explore with passion the rhythms of All Creation and develop our own synchronizing rhythm and sound.

I invite you to sit in the South of the Medicine Wheel of Life. It is the place of the noonday sun, warmth, fire and power. It is Summer. The color is red. The energies of the South represent the child within. Reclaim your Divine right as a child of the Universe and look through the veils with new eyes. View all situations and the world through the eyes of the innocent and trusting child that is your soul. Strengthen your belief in dreams and magic. Explore all possibilities and enjoy the adventure of life.

Blessings to you on your rainbow path and walk in beauty with All Creation.

In light, love and spirit.
