Why Kids Kill

Nancy L. Buchanan

Why? Why? Why? I'll tell you why! The theta brain is an impressionable brain. Children operate at the theta brain level until they are around the age of ten. They watch violence on TV, movies, news and especially video games that encourage children to create violence. All this is very real to the child mind (theta brain). Experts say a child can watch fifty acts of violence on TV within an hour. A picture is worth a thousand words. Any picture or experience that has emotion attached to it can register in the brain and nervous system. An example would be if you were a child and a little dog bit you. You would later as an adult flinch or react if you saw or heard a little dog like the one that bit you.

The child mind is very impressionable and registers experiences that affect us as adults. It is important to know that children operate within the theta brain wave level that is impressionable and believes that experiences are real. Think about how you believed in Santa Claus with your whole heart and soul. As we mature in our bodies from children into adults, some of the physical changes are obvious. It is important to know that our brain changes also. Beta is the faster brain wave level adults operate within that allows one to use logic and reasoning.

In the past fifteen years, I have counseled people with early childhood traumas that still affect them in their adult life. There is a part of us that we call the inner child that recreates the emotional environment from the past. A good example is when we as adults attract mates that remind us of our parents or make us feel like our parents did when we were children. I have counseled one man who married three different women who were very similar to his mother in looks and actions. We cannot underestimate the power of the child mind.

I asked a stranger in a restaurant today why kids kill. Her reply expressed great concern for her three year old daughter, but she was not sure why it was happening. When I see a newspaper with parents crying "My! Why did this happen to my child?" it amazes me that people do not make a connection between TV, movies, violent games and the performance of children shooting other children.

Life is precious. How can we protect it? How can we protect the children from being programmed for violent behavior, and ultimately protect our own lives. Do we have the courage to take a stand? Many have heard of insanity as wanting things to be different but not being willing to do anything different. This article is written to give you food for thought. I feel inspired to do something and this article is my first step to taking my responsibility as an adult to help the children. I do not have children of my own, however I feel all the children are here for us to love, protect, and encourage. We are all connected at the spiritual level and, when others suffer, we suffer.

Child violence can be prevented. Schools can take preventive measures by having metal detectors, requiring children to wear form-fitting clothes instead of baggy clothes that could house a machine gun. Schools can provide special counseling to reprogram children to value and respect life. Educational programs for parents, teachers, and the community can be provided through local TV programs that are humanitarian based. We, as good citizens, can write to our congressmen to ask for support in removing violence from the media, and we can make tee shirts and bumper stickers that discourage media violence and encourage goodwill and harmony.

Preventive measures to stop violence are necessary. However, we must confront this problem at the level of cause. The theta brain programming is the cause of all events that manifest themselves at the physical level. If we focus our attention on the good and the positive, then we can shift our children's consciousness so that they may have a constructive, fulfilled and happy life. What we think about we bring about, so let's think about the very best that can happen and make a positive contribution to save the children.
