You've Got a Friend

Karin j Pekarcik

When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand; and nothing, nothing is going right; close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there; to brighten up even your darkest nights. You just call out my name and you know wherever you are I'll come running to see you again. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall all you've got to do is call and I'll be there. You've got a friend.
Carole King song of the '70's

This song plays through my memory banks when I think about friends. What a blessing it would be to have a forever friend like the one about which Carole King sings.

Friendship has many different levels. There are the friends of our childhood, our teen years, and our adulthood. Our friendships grow and bloom as we develop and mature.

Yet, the friend which is with us at all times and never deserts us is quite a different type of friend. The friend Carole King joyfully sings to me is the true friend which is inside each one of us, our soul (guardian angel, higher self, spirit guide, whatever name we wish to call this higher being). This beautiful being is part of us, it is the real us, and never leaves throughout incarnation after incarnation. He (or she) is there helping us through our troubles, presenting hints and suggestions along the way, challenging us to face our obstacles, and pushing us to be more than we are. He is our own personal cheering section. He recognizes us as a divine being, and rightly so. He sees us for who we really are, and he prods us on to grow into that perfect being.

We need never be alone because he is always with us. All we need do is tune into him, and he is there. He never leaves us; we are the ones who disassociate ourselves from him. We are the ones who have forgotten him. He will never desert us. Ever!

How do we summon our most treasured friend? It is simple. We quiet ourselves and get rid of all extraneous noises and distractions. We retreat into our quiet spot, a place of solitude. A quiet spot can be discovered anywhere in our surroundings, in a favorite part of our garden, study area, bathtub, you name it - anywhere we will not be disturbed for about 10 minutes.

Now that you are in your quiet area, relax, and take several deep breaths. Release the stale air in your lungs. Breathe in the fresh air around you. Fill your lungs deep with this rejuvenating air. Feel it circulate throughout your body, renewing and refreshing every inch of your being. After you have achieved a sense of quietude, go within. What this means is that you are placing your attention inwardly to that special spot within your own heart. This is the forgotten treasure chest in which all your most cherished gifts are safely kept.

Stay focused in your heart area. Feel your head beating out its own unique rhythm, sending out its life-giving energy to every cell of your body. Feel the infinite love which your heart is carrying to all of your organs, muscles, blood vessels, and tissue.

Now is the time to call upon your true friend. Your friend is just waiting for you to invite him into your thought world. Feel his energy within your heart. This is where he resides, deep within the cavity of your sacred heart. He is there ceaselessly supervising the powerhouse of energy which is flowing throughout your body. Feel his divine love showering you with blessings. Sense his infinite peace and tranquillity. Stay with this energy for several minutes. Bask in the beauty and joy which he grants you. Sense his divine love pouring through every single little cell of your body. He is in every cell, guiding it to achieve perfection in its own cycle of life.

Calmly ask a question you have been pondering. What wisdom can he impart to you today? What gift will he bestow upon you? What energy can he share with you?

What are you truly needing at this time? He will willingly give what is sincerely asked of him. Do you need extra courage to face a most challenging lesson? Ask him, and he will grant you the courage to face your test. Do you need joy to fill your life? What probing question would you like to ask him? You need but ask and you shall receive an answer.

You may not receive the answer immediately, and that is okay. Your answer will frequently manifest in the form of a hint, a gift granted in nature, a special feeling which flows through you, or a fleeting glimpse of your higher purpose - the purpose which you have come into this earthly life to express. Your answer will arrive in whatever form he chooses to teach his lesson to his cherished student.

Bless your treasured friend, and thank him for his help. He will never leave you. This you can count on. He is always with you, guiding you through your most difficult of lessons. Know that he is with you. You will even feel his energy at various times of the day. You need never feel alone again!

When you receive your unique gift, acknowledge your special helper with gratitude and love. And you will continue to experience the joy and beauty which he showers upon his most treasured friend. You need never doubt that you are truly his friend forever.

Why not share your treasure with someone else? In this way you can perpetuate the gift-giving experience and enrich another being's life. And you will find in the generosity of your gift-giving you will be rewarded abundantly in numerous ways.

Call upon your friend, and he will always be there no matter wherever you are . . . You've got a friend!
